My new eyes 1st Birthday...
…Was nearly a month ago now! Back on the 30th June, I celebrated the first anniversary of my eyes being lasered. And whilst a year is really not that long at all, it feels like my eyes have always been this good. I moderate a forum as part of my job and the forum is specifically for laser eye surgery discussion. It’s actually a really nice job to do because I get to help advise and...

Post 6 months
Can it really be 6 months since I had my Laser Eye Surgery? Well the answer to that would be “Yes, it really has!” It seems an eternity since I last wear glasses and can’t really remember what it felt like to wear them. Only over did I realise how inconvienient they wear when having to wear 3D glasses to see Avatar. They were a complete pain. So after 6 months I got to go to my...

5 months on!
Wow has it really been 5 months! It seems like forever since I had my eyes lasered and I honestly can’t remember wearing glasses. It’s like a bad memory being erased! Don’t get me wrong, a lot of people suit glasses and enjoy wearing them but I didn’t in both those cases. It was my boyfriends Christmas party this weekend just gone and I enjoyed being able to go out and not...

Nearly 4 months
I find this incredible to believe but it’s been nearly 4 months since I was treated with Ultra Lasek Plus. All in all I’ve had a perfect recovery, but lately the dry eye has started to annoy me. It managed to wake me up at 3:30am the other day where it constantly stung and watered. I had drenched my eye in Ocumed tears which helped for the rest of my sleep but it was at that point I...

Dry eyes yet again
Ok so this is all my own fault but I have a horribly dry pair of eyes. I didn’t put my drops in regularly yesterday and now they’re stinging and dry and generally hurty! Message to everyone, make sure you lube up your eye balls as much as possible! I think I may actually be a bit  over dramatic about all this but I am seriously annoyed at myself for being a complete doofus! Ok so time...

And so it continues...
I’m still giving my eyes some time to settle but so far so great! Still 2 lines below 20/20 which is so much better than the first week post surgery. I mean don’t get me wrong, my eye sight was pretty amazing straight away but if I blinked it tended to cloud my bandage lense. The improvement in my eyes post lense though was definitely noticable and I could start seeing the clarity of...

(Later than) One Month Check Up
As of tomorrow I’ll be having my one month check up! Granted it’s actually my 6 week check up but I’m still excited to see what they say. Thinking about my journey from start to now, I think it’s safe to say my whole journey has actually been pretty safe and easy. I’m not hoping for any drama, believe me but it’s amazing when I think how straight forward the...

No more medicated drops...
As of today I’ll stop taking my medicated drops as prescribed by the Optom. You’re meant to take them for 4 weeks after the contact lense is removed and my 4 weeks is now pretty much done. It’s going to be odd not going through the ritual of putting my drops in daily but one I’m not going to mind not having to do :) I’ll still be lubricating my eyes with the usual...

Update 2 for the day!
Following on from my last post I’ve run upstairs to the clinic to get a bit of advice about my sticking plaster eye. Turns out that this is common a month after surgery and I’ve done well not to have it before now. Because my eyes have only recently treated it’s likely to happen for a while which is why my provider continues to see you for 6 months. This was pretty reassuring to...

Dry Eyes
Today it’s been a month since I had my eyes lasered! I’ve been struggling with the dreaded dry eye the last few days. This is something I was warned could happen and I had managed to avoid it up until this point but yesterday it caught up with me. Tuesday night I went to bed and managed to wake myself up by rubbing my right eye. What’s so unusual about that I hear you cry? Well...

Keeps on going...
It’s now been over two weeks since I had my eyes lasered and I’ve got to say they just keep getting better and better. They’re less sore during the day and aren’t drying as much as I thought they might. It’s to the point now where I keep forgetting to put my drops in at the allocated times, especially during my lunch break. I’ve also found myself thinking...

Bye Bye glasses
My niece (who’s now nearly 6 years old) had an imaginery friend called Glasses when she was 3. Glasses didn’t wear glasses, so we have no idea why that was his name. Every day Elena (my niece) used to have adventures with Glasses and he became a regular feature. One day however, Elena stopped playing with Glasses and he went away. Glasses was no more… Today I too am without...

Post 2 Weeks
Tomorrow it’ll be the 2 week anniversary of my new eyes and because it’s been 2 weeks, there are now lots of things I can do. These include: Getting water in my eyes Rubbing my eyes Wearing eye make up Not wearing my eye shields Plucking my eyebrows I can’t tell you how much I’m looking forward to being able to sleep on my front without getting huge imprints on my...

New Eyelashes!
This is a slightly odd post but I can’t resist writing about it! I’ve just been up to the toilets to go sort my eyes and whilst I was looking at them, I noticed that I have sprouted a whole host of new lashes growing in the corner of my eye. These are very light but there are now 3 in the space where there was once one. I can only think that this is the result of not being able to rub...

Breaking News!
Today I went for my weekly check up and not only am I seeing 20/20 vision, I’m actually seeing the lowest line on the chart. Ok so I got some of the letters wrong but I was really close. I now don’t have to go back for a month or so and my corneas are ” nice and transparent”. According to the optom, you can sometimes see a cloudiness to the cornea after treatment which...

Recovering...
I’m trying to keep as up to date with this diary/blog as possible because now I’ve had the surgery it’d be really easy to not keep it updated. To be honest, this is just the beginning of my new life without glasses. So to make sure I get every little bit of information included, I’m intending on blogging about it as much as possible. Since my last blog post, my eyes have...

A proper catch up
It’s been nearly a week since I had my surgery and I can’t tell you how amazing it feels to be able to see without my glasses. Needless to say, the surgery went brilliantly. :) So to catch you all up, here’s what happened: I went to work for most of Tuesday morning before the surgery, making sure I had loads to do so as not to think about it too much. Before long, my boyfriend...

Quick Update on my eyes
Not going to be able to post for long as my eyes are still in recovery mode. Crux of it is that I went in to have Lasik and came out with Lasek as my corneas were on the thin side. Surgery was a doddle and completely painless. Afterwards was less comfortable and quite painful. Remedy was sleep which made a world of difference. Eye sight fluctuating but told will improve after lense taken out. Roll...

Today is the day...
Eye Laser Surgery Commence! Yes today at 3:30pm (exactly 4 hours and 15 minutes from when this has been written) I will be undergoing my eye laser surgery. Whilst it feels like a long time coming, at the same time, it feels like it’s come round very quickly. Not entirely sure that the above sentence made much sense but I am actually starting to feel a bit weird. Don’t know if...

T-minus 5 days
So the other night I actually had my first dream about having my eyes lasered and it was actually a bit scary! I didn’t think I was at all nervous about it but in my subconcious somewhere I am obviously slightly worried. I’m not concerned about something going wrong but more about the fact that I need to try and keep my eyes still and I think the more I try and focus myself on doing that, the...

Booked in for my Eye Laser Surgery
After an informative and exciting (to say the least) consultation at the company I work for, I booked in straight away. Not point in beating around the bush I thought, might as well get it booked in and at a point where I’ll be able to rest properly over a weekend. So the 30th is the date of my surgery and it’s not only a week from being done. My boyfriend keeps asking if I feel at...

Eye Laser Surgery Consultation part deux
Laser Eye Surgery consultation, take 2: Got a call at around 4:00pm to say that there had been a few no shows for the consultation so would I like to pop up when I was ready to get my eyes tested. Being just downstairs from the clinic I finished my work and walked up to the clinic at 5pm. I got to reception and explained to the woman on the desk about the call and she looked at me blankly and...

Todays eye sight forecast is....light sensitive
I went to the consultation yesterday…my eyes are still light sensitive. This has meant excessive squinting and now my eyes are majorly tired. It’s only midday… I don’t know how strong those dilation drops are but my god they’re making me look like I’ve been on drugs! Hope Wednesday’s drops aren’t this bad! I’ve got my contacts in as my...

Consultancies at other companies
I decided to go for a consultancy at a competitor company so I can shop around for my treatment. I’m obviously curious to see what I can get for my money and the different types of treatment available. I’m not going to name the company I went to but it was an experience to be sure… I had real problems when I was booking my consultancy. The woman in the call centre didn’t...

Witnessing Eye Laser Surgery
As part of my induction to my new job, I am allowed to witness an actual eye laser surgery treatment being performed, should I wish. Being the curious type, I jumped at the opportunity to see what actually happens and what the process is from the moment the patient is preped for surgery. So today I went to the clinic upstairs to see whether there was a treatment I was allowed to sit in on. Very...

My astigmatism
I never realised as a kid that my poor eyesight was caused by an astigmatism. In fact it was only when I got my contact lenses fitted that I found out I even had them in both eyes. Up until then, I had always thought I was short sighted in both eyes and hadn’t ever seen my prescription. But in fact the reason why every thing is blurry at all distances is because of my cornea is shaped like...
